A New Dog - Bringing Raccoons in from the Cold in Urban Areas

"Rising Suns" or "Risuns" are small plastic pads smeared with red lipstick. They are placed around food bowls to document the presence of raccoons at the stations.

Click here for a bookmarked example from August 04, 1995.

Below are examples of risuns from this researcher's webpage at www.republicanroadsmilitarycollege.com

Here are wooden boxes each full of risuns. The count shows 68 boxes total. The top edges of the risuns in the lower boxes can be seen.
Below are three risun trays, as examples, from 1995, 1998 and 2000.
Here are the same three trays. They contain 57, 61 and 65 risuns. Assuming 60 lipstick/plastic pads per tray the total number collected between 1994 and 2002 is (60X68=) approximately 4000 risuns.

This is an August 1995 raw data sheet with an 04 August risun documenting the presence of a raccoon at shelf one. The sheet shows a total of 1250 grams eaten at the shed on 04 August.

This is a clipping from the August 1995 excel spreadsheet showing the same data. Again, the sheet shows 1250 grams eaten on August 04. Click on the clipping for the entire spreadsheet.
